The BLUE helmet is a new tradition for the Jacksonville Fire Department. Blue fire helmets were presented to our most recent graduate of paramedic school to signify the completion and culmination of a year of sacrifice, dedication, and hard work. Firefighter Reynolds spent hundreds of hours both on and off duty to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to earn the title of Paramedic. Tonight at City Council Fire Chief Alan Laughy was proud to announce that our Medical Director Dr. Darren Flamik is the 2018 AEMTA Medical Director of the Year, Captain David Jones is the 2018 AEMTA EMS Administrator of the Year, and FF/Paramedics Tarno, Sullivan, and Clevenger placed 3rd in Paramedic competition and 2nd in Fire/EMS competition this year at the Hot Springs Arkansas EMT Association. ~ Congratulations JFD!

On Friday March 9, 2018, the Jacksonville Fire Department held its fifth annual Award Ceremony. Lonoke County Sheriff John Staley received the Chief’s Letter of Appreciation for assistance to our crew on March 14, 2017. Jacksonville Police Officers Dylan Hibbs, Chris Crowder, and Sergeant Amanda Hicks received the Chief’s Letter of Appreciation for their actions at a structure fire on October 18,2017. Bobbie and Laurie Graham also received the Chief’s Letter of Appreciation for assisting in a water rescue on August 26, 2017. The Fire Chief’s Letter of Appreciation is presented to individuals who perform a commendable act that greatly contributes to success of The Jacksonville Fire Department during an emergency incident.
The Jacksonville Fire Department Certificate of Commendation is awarded to a firefighter or firefighters for exceptionally meritorious service. It may be awarded for work performed under unusual, complicated, or hazardous conditions, as well as for work of an exceptional quality. FF/Paramedic Mark Evans and Lieutenant Allen Wells were awarded the Certificate of Commendation for their actions on March 14,2017.
FF/EMT Tyler Johnson was awarded the Department’s Firefighter of the Year for 2017. Firefighter of the Year is awarded to someone who holds the rank of Firefighter and has demonstrated an outstanding level of Work Performance, Personal Self Improvement, and Community Involvement. FF/Paramedic Payton Sullivan was awarded Paramedic of the Year for 2017. Paramedic of the Year is awarded to someone who performs daily duties as a licensed Paramedic and has demonstrated an outstanding level of Work Performance, Personal Self Improvement, and Community Involvement. Lieutenant Justin Martin was awarded the Junior Fire Officer of the Year for 2017. Junior Fire Officer of the Year is awarded to someone who holds the rank of Lieutenant and has demonstrated an outstanding level of Work Performance, Personal Self Improvement, and Community Involvement. Captain James Amerine was awarded the Fire Officer of the Year for 2017. Fire Officer of the Year is awarded to someone who holds the rank of Captain or Battalion Chief and has demonstrated an outstanding level of Work Performance, Personal Self Improvement, and Community Involvement.
Lieutenant Adam Jones received the John M. Vanderhoof award for 2017 for his work in Fire Prevention and Education. During his 40+ years at the Jacksonville Fire Department, Chief Vanderhoof’s career was marked by devotion and dedication. Because of this, the John M. Vanderhoof award is named in his honor. This award represents selfless service and dedication to the Jacksonville Fire Department. It not only recognizes outstanding performance, but highlights an individual whose work behind the scenes helps make the Jacksonville Fire Department the “PRIDE of the City”.
The selection process for the awards becomes tougher every year. Each of your members of the Fire Department work very hard continually improving their knowledge and skills to provide the highest level of patient care, to become better stewards of the art of Firefighting, and being proactive in Fire Prevention and Education for the Citizens of Jacksonville so that we are your “PRIDE of the City!”

The Jacksonville Fire Department was named 2017 AEMTA Fire/EMS Service of the year at the annual convention held in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Also, Firefighter/Paramedics Kyle Myers, Cody Henley, and Mark Evans received awards for 2nd place in the 2017 AEMTA Fire/EMS Competition.
