The Patrol Division is the largest division and considered the backbone of the police department. The Patrol Division consists of one captain, four lieutenants, four sergeants, and 32 officers. The Patrol Division is responsible for responding to all calls for service, enforcement of Criminal and City statutes and Codes, enforcing traffic laws, conducting proactive patrols, investigating criminal activity, working traffic accidents, and building community relations.
The Patrol Shifts are divided into four 12-hour shifts and the officers are assigned to five different geographical areas referred to as districts.
The Patrol Captain is also responsible for a Special Operations Unit that consists of one Lieutenant, one Sergeant, two officers, and four K-9 Officers. This unit overlaps the heavy call times and is responsible for addressing any high crime areas, burglary patrols, and any Nuisance situations. This unit coordinates with Landlords and other city departments in an attempt to make the City of Jacksonville a safer place to live.
